Strong structural design is not just clean modelling and accurate drawings.
It is catching clashes early, understanding how equipment and access will work, and giving the construction team information they can actually use.
This opportunity puts you inside a multidisciplinary water team where your design judgement will influence real treatment plants, pump stations, reservoirs and associated infrastructure.
We're partnering with our client, an established Australian engineering consultancy focused on water and wastewater infrastructure across Australia.
They are seeking an independently productive Structural Designer who can turn engineering intent into coordinated, buildable models and documentation.
Cairns is the immediate priority, with genuine opportunities also available across the Sunshine Coast, Melbourne, Brisbane, Sydney and Gold Coast.
The Opportunity
You will contribute to structural design and drafting packages across concept, tender, detailed and construction stages.
The role will see you involved across:
• 3D modelling and documentation of reinforced concrete and structural steel infrastructure
• Design development for treatment plants, pump stations, reservoirs, pits, platforms and equipment supports
• Production of general arrangements, detailed drawings, schedules and coordinated design packages
• Close coordination with structural engineers and civil, mechanical and process disciplines
• Model reviews, clash resolution and constructability improvements
• Maintaining drawing quality, document control and agreed design standards
You'll be more than a drafting resource. Your practical judgement and attention to detail will help shape how the design is coordinated and delivered.
What We're Looking For
We're interested in speaking with structural designers who can work independently, ask the right questions and take pride in buildable documentation.
You'll likely bring:
• Approximately 5 to 12 years of relevant structural design or drafting experience
• Experience producing reinforced concrete and structural steel models and drawings
• Strong attention to detail and confidence coordinating multidisciplinary interfaces
• The ability to interpret engineering sketches, calculations and design intent
• Experience in water, wastewater, industrial, mining or comparable infrastructure projects
Technical Experience
Experience across some or all of the following will be highly regarded:
• Revit, Advance Steel, Navisworks and AutoCAD workflows
• Treatment plants, pump stations, reservoirs, tanks and water-retaining structures
• Steelwork detailing and coordinated shop drawing information
• Common data environments, model coordination and formal design review processes
Qualifications
• A relevant drafting, design or engineering qualification is highly regarded
• Equivalent capability developed through substantial industry experience will also be considered
