Water-retaining structures do not reward generic thinking.Durability, constructability, operational access and multidisciplinary coordination all matter, because the structure has to perform in an aggressive environment for decades. We're partnering with our client, an established Australian engineering consultancy specialising in water and wastewater infrastructure. Their teams work across treatment plants, pump stations, reservoirs, pipelines and related industrial assets.
They are seeking a Structural Engineer who can deliver practical concrete and steel solutions while coordinating closely with civil, mechanical, process and design colleagues.
Cairns is the immediate priority, with genuine opportunities also available across the Sunshine Coast, Melbourne, Brisbane, Sydney and Gold Coast.
The Opportunity
You will take ownership of structural analysis, design and documentation across a varied portfolio of water and wastewater infrastructure.
The role will see you involved across:
• Design of reinforced concrete, structural steel and water-retaining infrastructure
• Structural solutions for treatment plants, reservoirs, tanks, pits, pump stations, platforms and equipment supports
• Design calculations, technical reports, specifications and construction documentation
• Concept, tender, detailed and for-construction design packages
• Coordination with process, mechanical, civil and drafting teams to resolve interfaces early
• Design reviews, constructability input and technical support during construction
You'll be trusted to balance technical rigour with the practical realities of construction, operation, maintenance and whole-of-life performance.
What We're Looking For
We're interested in speaking with structural engineers who enjoy technically detailed infrastructure work and can deliver with increasing autonomy.
You'll likely bring:
• Approximately 5 to 12 years of relevant structural engineering experience
• Strong reinforced concrete and structural steel design capability
• Experience in water, wastewater, industrial, mining or other infrastructure environments
• The ability to prepare clear calculations, reports, specifications and design documentation
• A practical approach to multidisciplinary coordination and constructability
Technical Experience
Experience across some or all of the following will be highly regarded:
• Water-retaining structures, tanks, reservoirs, pump stations and treatment facilities
• Durability design for corrosive water and wastewater environments
• Revit, Advance Steel, Navisworks or comparable structural design workflows
• Site inspections, condition assessments and construction-phase technical support
Qualifications
• A relevant tertiary qualification in Civil or Structural Engineering
• CPEng and relevant state registration, including RPEQ where applicable, are highly regarded
